Description

This course examines theory and research on what is commonly called white-collar crime, with particular emphasis on the opportunity perspective and how offenders recognize and exploit opportunities for offending. We will consider classic and contemporary scholarship on definitional debates, the origins and usefulness of the term ¿white-collar crime,¿ forms of white-collar offending, victimization, costs to society, and issues of social control related to prevention, enforcement, and sanctioning. The course concludes by considering the evolving nature of criminal opportunities and the future of white-collar crime.
