Description

This course examines the artistic and cultural dimensions of aging, focusing on the embodied experience of growing older in America and globally. Through an interdisciplinary lens, we explore how engagement in the arts and cultural activities shapes the aging process, promotes well-being, and fosters social connection. We analyze representations of aging in literature, film, and performance, critically interrogating the assumptions and stereotypes that circulate through mainstream and global cultures and how these influence interpersonal relationships and institutional practices. The course also investigates how artistic expression serves as a vehicle for identity, resilience, and community-building among older adults. This course seeks to develop the critical thinking skills that is needed in today¿s rapid changing cultural environments for older adults, and help students design meaningful arts-based interventions that enhance the lives of older populations.

Guest registration opens January 12
