Guest Students
Guest students (sometimes called non-degree or non-matriculated students) are people who take one or more courses without being enrolled in a UMass Boston degree program. If you are taking a UMass Boston course for the first time, you can use any of the following methods to register:
- Online Registration
Students registering for the first time can submit their registration online using the online shopping cart. Simply select the “Add to Cart” button found on each individual course listing page or on the course description page. When your registration is processed, you'll receive a user ID and password to access WISER for future transactions. - By Permission of Instructor and/or Department
Some courses are marked as requiring special permission to register. Prior to any request to register, you should contact the instructor or academic department. Use the Faculty and Staff Directory Search for contact information: https://www.umb.edu/directory/.
Please note: payment is not due with the submission of your course registration request. The Bursar will send out eBills once a month to those with a balance.
What if the course is full? Once your Request to Register is approved by our staff, you will be granted access to the WISER system. It’s possible that a course may be full, but you’ll be able to add your name to the waitlist.
What will my bill look like? Once you gain access to the WISER system, your precise bill will be displayed in the Finance Center.
Current Students
If you are a current, matriculated UMass Boston student or have taken UMass Boston courses before, please use the WISER online self-service registration system. Current students should check with their academic advisor to be sure courses align with their plan of study.
