Sexual Communication in the Netherlands

Visit Netherlands for 2 weeks! Explore sexual communication in the Netherlands, a culture that prioritizes openness to sexuality, decriminalized sex work, and comprehensive sex education. Earn credits.

This six-week course will give students the opportunity to explore sexual communication in the Netherlands, a culture that prioritizes openness to sexuality, decriminalized sex work, and comprehensive sex education. Sexual communication will be examined in a variety of contexts (e.g., within the family, institutions, and the media) and relationship types (e.g. short-term and long-term). Pre- and post- travel, we meet in the classroom at UMass Boston, where students will be engaged in student-led discussions about topics including hook-up culture, sexual consent, and sexual health. While in the Netherlands, students will visit museums, listen to guest speakers, and participate in informative excursions.

Hostel lodging, breakfasts, ground transport, and excursions/activities will be managed by a travel vendor selected by UMass Boston. These items are included in the logistics fee.

Course

COMM 480 (3 credits) or COMM 380 (3 credits)

For majors in Communication who have successfully completed all other core courses in the department, students may enroll in Sexual Communication as the COMM 480 Capstone Seminar. Students who have not yet completed the Communication major requirements, and students who's major is not Communication, may enroll in Sexual Communication as a special topics COMM 380 elective.

• MA resident: $528 per credit
• New England Regional: $924 per credit
• Non-Resident: $1,296 per credit
